Lots of images, inadequate coding techniques, as well as exceedingly detailed themes and styles, will certainly slow down your site. At times, however, your current web host could be the issue, in which case it’s certainly time for you to look for a new one.

Why do you need Domain Privacy?

What is it?

WHOIS protection, otherwise known as Domain Privacy, is used to stop the domain registrant’s personal information from being shown on the public WHOIS database. WHOIS is an organization that control the data relating to domain registration. Every registrant’s information is deemed to be public information, as well as expiry, renewal, registration dates and more. This can be seen by anyone that’s looked up the information on one of the many WHOIS search engines.

You can use privacy protection to prevent your personal contact information from being shown to the world. It’s the only way to keep your email address, phone number, home address and name safe from the prying eyes of random strangers.

Why’s it worth paying for privacy protection?

If you wouldn’t like for a complete stranger to have access to your details, then it’s a relatively straightforward decision to make. Although it’s going to cost you a little bit of money, it’s more likely than not that it’s going to be well worth your investment in the long term. Seeing as pretty much anyone’s able to access the internet, pretty much anyone could be reading where you live, your phone number and a range of other sensitive information. For anyone that’s running a site that features hotly contested or debatable topics, using privacy protection is absolutely essential to prevent an abundance of abusive mail or contacts.

Another great benefit of privacy protection is that you won’t be allowing your information to be slipping into the hands of con artists and spammers. These include groups that attempt to mimic service offerings from your domain’s registrar, which can sometimes run the owner hundreds of dollars in costs for fake “services”. Pay careful attention to anything that you’ve received in the mail that’s related to your domain and check its legitimacy with your current registrar.

What are the negatives?

The only real negative is the expense. The price will vary depending on the individual reseller or registrar that you’re using. A handful of people won’t actually have any interest in protecting their “personal” information, seeing as they’re using a company address for the registration. In this scenario, it’s actually very logical to have transparency so that people are easily able to contact them about their domain, services or website. As well as this, having your information readily available may come across as showing pride or confidence in the website, services or products that are being provided.

While privacy protection is not a total necessity for every website, the cost is very likely to be nominal in comparison to the benefits that it’ll be providing to your website and to the protection of your personal information, especially if you are interested in maintaining a basic level of anonymity online. If your domain isn’t registered through a company address, the use of privacy protection has become rather essential.

Now that you have a better understanding of Domain Privacy, you can start contacting SnapsHosting today for more about our Domain Privacy. We are offering free Domain Privacy for selected Domain tlds.(.com, net, org, biz, info, me).

1. Color scheme

Use a color that tells people that your website is professional. It is very important that the colors blend well so one does not get distracted. Note that a good color will make your website more likeable. Avoid using too many colors which tends to give the illusion of childishness or a lack of seriousness. Maintain a balance.

2. Unique font

There is just something attractive about visiting a site that has a good blend of fonts and looks like it has an identity of its own.

If you have a food or clothing website for instance, ensure that the background communicates the purpose of what you are marketing. Make it interesting in a way that it balances well with the words on your site.

4. Use whitespace

Whitespace helps you to avoid a messy look on your site.

5. The general layout

The way you organize information on your website is very important. It should be systematic, clear, simple and precise. A well organized home page balances the words into equal and simple paragraphs, has images in the right places and clearly shows where one can click to access any other essential information they could be looking for.

How to promote your blog on social media in 7 simple ways

Blogging is a great way of marketing your business and generating interest in your products and services. Regardless of whether you’re a small business or a multinational company, blogging is an integral part of your online marketing strategy. The following are useful tips on how you can promote your blog on social media.

  1. Integrate your blog and Facebook comments

When you update Facebook with a link to a new blog article, you might find that fans are leaving comments on the Facebook update instead of your blog. If that’s happening, you can benefit from it by replacing your current blog commenting system with Facebook comments, which will integrate the comments from Facebook with your blog. In short, when a visitor comments on your article through your blog, this comment will appear on Facebook. And when the visitor comments on a Facebook update that links to your blog post, this comment appears on the blog.

  1. Social share and follow buttons

Social share buttons can be provided to your visitors to enable them to share your content with other users. This will help you to increase awareness about your content and provide your visitors with an opportunity of sharing your content. The user experience will also be improved. When choosing the share buttons, ensure that you select social networks you find important to you. If you keep it simple, you can increase the chances of users sharing your blog content. Social follow buttons can also be incorporated to increase social media followers.

  1. Social login

About three quarters of users will prefer logging into a site using social login rather than providing their email addresses and creating new accounts. You can improve the experience of your visitors through social login, which will increase your blog registration conversion and retention. By providing visitors with an opportunity of signing up or logging in using their own social media accounts, you’re making their registration process shorter. Conversion rate for new user registration will increase and you can collect useful data that you can use to make your campaigns more personalized.

  1. Content for shares

There are many websites that offer freebies for users who subscribe to a newsletter. You can also do a similar thing for your content. If your blog posts are popular and it has consistent traffic, you can lock in your readers by asking them to first share the content before they’re able to access it. Even though this strategy is effective, it may be somewhat counterintuitive because you require users to first share content before they’ve even read it. In order to alleviate this, you should not lock up an entire article. Rather, you can provide a sneak peek to entice your readers to share and then they can continue reading. If you have a WordPress site, you can use a social locker plugin and lock your post. The readers can then unlock it through liking, tweeting, or pinning the article. If you restrict access to useful and valuable content, it will lead to increased social activity by your visitors and this will help to promote your blog.

  1. Instagram photos

You can embed your Instagram photographs in your blog posts to enable you to get new followers. You can also use this feature to showcase photos on your Instagram account. When you include this feature, users will be provided with a link that enables them to retrieve an embed code that opens an Instagram image.

  1. Incorporate attractive images

Including attractive images is great because it will inspire your readers to share them. An attractive image is one that is clean and professional. You can also include text that provides an explanation of what your blog post is talking about. People will only share content if it makes them look good, and so you should make your images inspirational, educational and positive.

  1. Similar posts widget

If you read any of the major news websites, you will see that at the end of each story, they have a section that features similar news. After someone has read an article, they will be provided with additional content that they can engage with, and the click-through rates will be very high. By keeping visitors on your blog long enough, they are more likely to share it with others.

Bottom line

By using plugins and shareable images, you can encourage people to share your blog content with others. If you make it much easier for people to share, they will gladly spread the information, especially if they will look good in the process. Each share, like and comment will contribute to the goal of improving the popularity of your blog.

How to Stop Spam Comments in WordPress

So you’ve had a WordPress blog going for a while now and you’ve written some articles that have attracted a lot of attention. Some of it quite unwanted attention, being in the form of spam. There aren’t many things more annoying to a blogger than spam. The amount of shady advertisers and spam bots on the net is now reaching epic proportions and they’re targeting every vulnerable blog they can find. Including yours. Fear not, my friends, for there are various solutions for your woes. Before we go into them though, let’s take a look at what spam is and why the bringers of it target your blog.

Spam is, for the most part, an underhanded form of search engine optimization. Or a low-life attempt at it, anyway. True, spam does come in the form of advertisements most of the time, but the end goal is for the sender to gain back links to their particular sites, blogs or articles. We all know that Google loves back links and with the right keywords a spammer can grab several thousand clicks from a high quality link (in this case, your quality blog), before being found out and the link is taken off the internet map. Sometimes it can take weeks for the link to be un-indexed from the main search engines though.

What You Can Do About WordPress Spam

Comments are great for SEO, so not allowing them usually isn’t an option for a successful blogger. Or someone who is looking to be successful. Spam doesn’t just target the comment section on a blog though. It can also be injected into contact and registration forms and even trackback links. Luckily, WordPress has always been open to outside coding development to help make it a better platform and with that comes plugins. Plugins can handle many different functions on a WordPress blog and one of them is spam control and removal.

Warning: WordPress plugins can sometimes conflict with one another and occasionally, with WordPress itself. It is imperative that you make sure every plugin you install on your blog is compatible with your current version of WordPress. Be sure to read reviews on all plugins. The better reputation a plugin has, the less likely it will cause issues for you.

Let’s take a look at this top 2 rated free plugins that deal with WordPress spam.

WordPress Zero Spam Plugin

Zero Spam is robust and fairly easy to use and boasts a nice interface. It’s main focus is on registration and comment spam. Zero Spam is free to use, with no commercial catches to it. Which is becoming rare when it comes to anti-spam WP plugins. One of the best things about Zero Spam is that you, the user, doesn’t have to enter in captchas to manage it and there are no moderation queues to monitor. So basically, the plugin takes care of everything. It won’t interfere with caching plugins either, which can be a problem sometimes.

Stop Spam Comments Plugin

Stop Spam Comments is an extremely easy plugin to use. All one has to do is literally install it, activate it and leave it. There is nothing else for a blog owner to do afterward. It predominantly targets comment spam, but will stop registration and form spam as well.

There are other ways to help prevent spam from hitting your WordPress blog as well. Let’s take a look at them below.

Use A Robots.txt File

Robots.txt files are very helpful for blog owners. In this case, such a file can help prevent certain directories in your WordPress installation from being indexed by the major search engines. Which is how spam bots find your blog to begin with. There are a ton of helpful resources on the net showing you how to prevent directories from being crawled and indexed using a robots.txt file. Creating a robots.txt file is very simple.

Use Free Comment Services Like Disqus

Disqus’ system is quick to pick out potential spam and what little it may miss is pretty easy to delete manually when you log into their interface.

Use A Commercial Anti-Spam Plugin

Considerate commercial WordPress plugins as an option for preventing spam because for some people they work. If you have the extra money and are confident you’ve found the right plugin, go for it.

These are some of the options available to WordPress bloggers for preventing spam. Do more research yourself and perhaps you’ll find even more. I’ve tried everything I’ve mentioned up top and some have worked better than others.

Happy, spam-free blogging!

Xen based VPS vs Openvz VPS

Xen and OpenVZ are two of the most popular virtualization technologies offered by hosting providers. They are both open source server virtual private server technologies that enable developers to enjoy the benefits of controlling their hosting server environment. However, they have some significant differences. So it is important to know what your hosting needs are and understand the pros and cons of choosing either a Xen or an OpenVZ hosting plan. Here is a brief description of the two virtualization options, their distinct features, and why we prefer Xen to OpenVZ.

What is Xen?

Xen VPS is a virtualization engine that works on various hardware platforms including, x86, x86-64, PowerPC and Itanium. Xen provides two main virtualization options known as: paravirtualization (PV) and full virtualization (HVM). Both options may be used on one Xen server. Paravirtualization is used for Linux and other Unix-based VPS hosting plans. In the PV mode, one privileged OS controls the hardware. This OS is usually Linux or FreeBSD. Guest operating systems that run on it include: Linux, NetBSD, OpenBSD, OpenSolaris, NetWare and Minix. However, full virtualization can support various operating systems including Windows. Full virtualization also supports server extensions from the two main CPU manufacturers: Intel and AMD. The Intel VT and AMD-V provide additional features that make it possible for each guest operating system to access hardware resources directly.

What is OpenVZ?

OpenVZ VPS is a virtualization engine that supports x86, x86-64 and IA64 processors. OpenVZ is actually an operating system built on a modified Linux kernel. It permits one physical server to run many isolated instances of its operating system. These instances are known as virtual environments (VE), virtual private servers or containers. In OpenVZ, it is the operating environment that gets virtualized rather than the hardware. Each guest operating system must be a Linux OS but since it works with just one Linux kernel, it requires less system resource overhead. So it may be efficient for less demanding VPS applications.

Differences Between Xen VPS and OpenVZ VPS

Use of Hardware Resources

Xen provides the features to fully separate each virtual operating system. It allows each OS to have full resource isolation. The original memory and hard drive quotas assigned are maintained. RAM allocated to your VPS is always yours and you don’t share it with other server users. Any additional requests for memory are handled using the swap space allocated on the hard drive.

In addition, the hard drive subsystem is divided at the hardware level, processes are scheduled on the virtual machine level, so tasks from various VPS users are not lined up one a queue. If one VPS overloads itself, it will not affect other VPSs. This means that a VPS on Xen functions like a dedicated server.

OpenVZ provides a semi-dynamic allocation of server resources through features such as guaranteed and burstable RAM. The guaranteed RAM is the amount dedicated to your VPS while the burstable RAM is the amount of memory shared by all the virtual machines and operating environments. Since there’s no full isolation, your VPS may utilize the free resources available when needed. But this may not be available if all other virtual environments experience their peak load simultaneously.

One of the main drawbacks of OpenVZ, in terms of resource allocation, is that the activities of other virtual machines will affect your VPS’s performance since you will share the same hard drive subsystem.

Xen technology offers more options for higher performance than OpenVZ. First, it allows you to enjoy a dedicated amount of RAM and then offers the option of using swap space on the HDD if the RAM is exhausted. Although the performance of the server may be degraded slightly when this happens, it guarantees that your server and all required processes will remain active and enable you to stay online. Xen technology also protects your VPS from the activities and load demands of other VPSs on the same physical server.

Generally OpenVZ uses fewer resources than Xen so it is more suitable for less demanding server applications than Xen. It offers burstable memory instead of swap space. But the burstable memory can only be used when it is available on the server. If the burstable memory allocated on the main node for the VPS is used up and there’s a demand for memory that is beyond the allocated limit, the server will have to kill processes until more memory is available. This will place severe limits on the VPS and may cause some applications to go offline.

Xen is highly versatile and it supports both legacy operating systems and software as well new operating systems on the same physical server. This implies that when full hardware virtualization is used, Xen can support various kinds of proprietary systems. In fact, currently, there are no known operating systems that can not be used on a VPS hosted on a Xen platform.

OpenVZ falls short in the area of compatibility. It only supports various Linux distributions such as Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Red Hat and CentOS. In fact, presently only CentOS fully supports the popular cPanel administrative console. This is because all the virtual operating environments must access the hardware through the Linux kernel.

The Xen VPS platform costs more than the OpenVZ technology because it supports specialized hardware and offers flexibility, high performance, privacy and stability. On the other hand, the OpenVZ platform costs less and is appropriate for those, who need a better hosting plan than ordinary shared hosting, but do not actually need all the features offered by the Xen platform.

Why We Prefer Xen VPS

Developers and webmasters who need a very stable hosting platform with high efficiency and an uptime of over 96% would find the Xen VPS plan more suitable for their needs. Experience has shown that when a web application is initially hosted, the amount of traffic is quite low but it could grow at very high rate due to increased marketing and special offers. When this occurs, most web developers are caught napping because they did not anticipate the sudden increase in traffic. So it is better to plan for growth at the initial stage.

The Xen VPS platform offers the best features for scalability and it will even accommodate any temporary upsurge in demand for server resources through the use of swap space. So we highly recommend it to all our subscribers.

That was a brief description of two very popular VPS technologies: Xen and OpenVZ. Although we encourage web developers to choose the virtualization technology that is affordable and suitable for their hosting needs, we generally recommend Xen because it provides better performance, privacy, flexibility, scalability, and peace of mind.

Why Developer love VPS

VPS, short for Virtual Private Server, is a server that exists as part of much larger and powerful physical server. Therefore, several virtual private servers can run within the same physical space. Generally considered an upgrade from alternatives such as shared hosting, VPS is a favorite among developers, and here are some reasons why.

1. VPS Is Cheaper Than Dedicated Physical Servers

If you run a small operation, using a VPS server is considerably more affordable than setting up a dedicated physical server. The costs required to set up even a small physical server are quite high when compared to paying for the same resources from a provider of VPS services. Most developers do not need the bandwidth and the resources to make the use of dedicated physical servers economically viable, which is why for many developers, VPS is the way to go.

2. VPS Requires Less Maintenance Work Than Dedicated Physical Servers

As a developer, you want to spend as little time as possible managing and maintaining your servers. Use of VPS services gives you these options. Since you do not have to worry about physical resources such as RAM and CPU, you will not be required to be responsible for issues that arise from these components. With a physical dedicated server, you would have to take on these taxing and technically demanding activities since nobody else but you uses the system. With VPS, your host is responsible for such tasks, and at no extra cost to you.

3. VPS Has Unmatched Flexibility With Regard To Software Installations

Providers of VPS services understand that their customers, including developers, need an environment where they are not limited with regard to use of special applications. Most shared servers have crippling limitations on installation of software, which can completely ruin a developer’s ability to work comfortably. As a developer, you can rest assured that you will be able to install all your favorite software on your VPS server, something you cannot count on while using physical and shared servers.

4. VPS Can Grow With You

When you have exhausted the capacity of your physical server, you have to do a complete system overhaul involving disposal of the current physical servers in order to get a stronger system or buying of additional physical server hardware. Such work can be quite expensive, inefficient, time consuming and not to mention, beyond most people’s field of expertise. With VPS hosting, you do not have to worry about such issues. When you need more server resources, you just pay for more. You can even scale down if it turns out most of the hosting resources you purchased remain unused.

5. VPS Offers Better Connection Speeds

VPS offers a considerably better hosting experience than shared hosting. To begin with, when there are too many users within a shared hosting environment, your speeds can be affected even though you are using a very small amount of resources. With VPS hosting, the server space you pay for is completely your own, and even if other users overload their allocated spaces, their problems won’t affect you.

If you are a developer, there are many reasons why you should ditch your physical dedicated servers and shared hosting services for VPS hosting. First of all, VPS is cheaper when compared to setting up your own servers. Furthermore, VPS hosting allows you greater flexibility in the use of various software than both physical servers and shared hosting. Other reasons why developers love VPS include the fact that you can easily scale up when you require more server space.

How do I acquire a Domain that someone is owning

An excellent domain name is an integral success factor that all webmasters take into account, particularly if their sites are ecommerce oriented. Unfortunately in most cases good domains are usually already taken. This can present a lot of challenges in creating a new one that will suit your company’s requirements and even preferences. And this is where buying an existing domain comes into play.

By purchasing a preexisting one you can access all the benefits that it may be enjoying and effortlessly adapt them to your site. This includes getting on a link exchange program , that will have your new site been listed on other relevant sites which can extremely useful in driving quality traffic to and fro your website. You may also settle for a domain name that already has established top rankings on the major search engines like Google. What this means is that you can achieve a heightened level of visibility in organic search, and also boast your SEO efforts.

On the flipside purchasing a preexisting domain can also at times present a few problems. You can unwittingly inherit a considerable high level of spam. Your site potentially stands to be at the receiving end of emails from users that may have been registered to the previous site. This can in the long run mean you servers will utilize a significantly amount of bandwidth to deal with the junk mail that is sent to your site.

Despite this, the advantages of purchasing a preexisting domain by far outweigh the problems that such a move may present. Should you be keen on doing so the following is a guide on the various options laid out for you.

Direct contact

If the site you set your eyes on offers no contact details for its owners, you can execute a WHOIS search using domaintools.com . Two scenarios may emerge after making such a move. You may either get the info you want or get blocked by a privacy protection. In the first instance, you can contact the owner, and go through the process of making offer as you want. In such circumstances the best option is to negotiate a renting offer for a few given years. Which should also include a full purchase option when and if you ultimately decide to buy it. In the second scenario you can pay for a WHOIS history report that includes all record stored by domaintools.com prior to the owner putting in place privacy protection.

By using the direct contact strategy you can be in an excellent position to offer a non-standard payment. For example, you may offer the owner shares of your company or even advertise his/her name on the footer section of your site. On the other hand, if the owner of the domain name you want may be at the receiving end of many offers, yours can easily be overlooked.

By using domain tools to conduct a WHOIS search, you can be able to access the registrar of the domain you may be keen on purchasing. By taking the time to visit their website you can conveniently access the contact details of the owner even if they have put up privacy protection. Which will make your making offer infinitely more stress-free as you can navigate to the brokerage/ buy offer section of the registrar site and place your bid.

The main advantage of this strategy is that it underscores your credibility. The brokerage will handle all transfer and escrow processes, which make your bid more stronger as it will be backed by them. You can also conceal your identity throughout the whole process. On the downside, the owner may consider that you are desperate and will therefore have plenty of money to spend. Secondly, you will have to pay an upfront fee to access brokerage services.

Legal claim

Should you strongly regard that you are entitled to the ownership of a domain name as its current owner has violated a trademark you registered prior to the purchase of it. Or perhaps he/she misrepresents themselves as you, you can file a case with the UDRP. For those who may not be in the know, UDRP stands for uniform domain name dispute resolution policy, and they can decide the legitimacy of your appeal. The advantages of making such a move, if the ruling is in your favor, is you will pay nothing more than UDRP fees to acquire it. On the flipside if the ruling is against you, the owner will have consolidated the legitimacy of ownership and will prove to be hard to bargain with.

How SSL Warranty Works, What It Covers?

SSL is a formidable web security technology that infuses a substantial measure of assurance to the genuineness of a site’s activities, especially when the site engages in processing of customer payments. While the importance of having an SSL certificate on any site is pretty obvious for users of SSL, warranty offers for the certification have been the subject of much confusion among certification buyers. According to the certification body, the warranty is supposed to protect the end user in case the SSL certificate is mis-used. SSL defines mis-use as the issuing of the certificate to a party not entitled to have it. Still, this does not offer a lot of clarity on the true nature of this warranty, especially for buyers who assume that the warranty protects them in some way or another.

Which SSL Certificate should I choose?

Website security is very important especially with regards to closing a sale on the internet. You may be having great products or services or even great offers but these will matter little if customers feel unsafe paying for your services over the internet. You are most likely to lose sales if your customers’ confidential information cannot be safeguarded. An SSL certificate gives your customers an indicator of internet security. It is evidence that you can be trusted with crucial information.
