Which SSL certificate is right for me?

You can choose the suitable SSL Certificate by Validation level, number of Domains secured or Brand.

Validation Level

Domain Validation

Domain validated SSL certificates (DV SSL) are server security certificates that provide the lowest level of validation available from commercial certificate authorities. These certificates provide basic encryption, are issued very quickly and involve a simple check to verify domain ownership. Domain-validated certificates are generally the least expensive.

Organization Validation

Organization-validated SSL certificates include authentication of the business or organization behind the domain. Organization SSL activates the browser padlock and https, shows your corporate identity, and assures your customers that you take security very seriously.

Extended Validation

Extended validation SSL certificates add trust to your website. With extended validation, the certifying authority conducts a very in-depth examination of your business before issuing the certificate. Some EV SSL even turn a web browser to display a green URL bar or other identifying characteristics to show to site visitors that the site has undergone this extended validation.

Domains Secured

Single Domain

Single-domain SSL certificates provide security for a single fully qualified domain name.

Wildcard

Organization-validated SSL certificates include authentication of the business or organization behind the domain. Organization SSL activates the browser padlock and https, shows your corporate identity, and assures your customers that you take security very seriously.

Multiple Domains

A multi-domain SSL certificate provides secured communications for multiple domains and multiple host names operating on different IP addresses.

SSL Certificates FAQ

What is SSL/Secure Certificates?

SSL and Secure Certificates provide security for your website by encrypting communications between your web server and the web visitor who visit your websites. It is required to be used on e-commerce website which is doing credit card payment transaction online or any confidential information which you want to keep secure while web visitor accessing the information via internet.

Information like credit card number, name, expiration date, ccv code, etc will not be secure without SSL/Secure Certificate. You can easily lose sale as web customer will not feel safe buying/selling thing from you. You do not need a SSL/Secure Certificate if credit card information is not entered directly on your website, if the information is entered via payment processing website like PayPal,etc

What is https?

HTTP, which stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol, is the standard method to exchange data between servers and web browsers.  This is vital for sites that collect sensitive information from visitors such as credit card numbers or address details. You can check to see if a website is secure by looking at your web browser address bar and ensuring the address begins with “https://”

What do I need to know before getting SSL?

1. SSL Requires a Dedicated IP Address

  • Please visit our order page to buy you own dedicated IP address

 2. Changing to a Dedicated IP Address Requires Time to Propagate

  • The IP address of your website will change when switching to dedicated IP address and it will take time to propagate your website to the rest of the internet. Some web visitor will be able to view your website immediate, some other do not. It usually take less than 48 hours to propagate to the rest of the internet.

 3. SSL certificate had expired Date

  • Before SSL certificate expires, you will need to purchase a new SSL certificate with a new expiration date. We recommend that you purchase a new SSL certificate at least one week prior to the expiration of your current SSL certificate to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

Which SSL certification is right for my site?

An SSL certificate is beneficial for any website. Below is the illustration how to choose the correct ssl cert.

A personal blog / hobby site / Non-business

For a personal blog, hobby site, or any non-business website we would recommend our Single Domain Validated SSL service. Domain Validated SSL is quick and easy to install as it encrypts all page views.

Large website / personal blog / hobby site

Wildcard validation is recommended for any large website with multiple subdomains. For example your main website may be “www.snapshosting.com“, with a shop at “shopping.snapshosting.com”, and a blog at “blog.snapshosting.com”. A standard SSL certificate would only cover one of these subdomains, this is where Wildcard validation comes in very handy. Rather than having to purchase a separate SSL certificate for each of your subdomains you can secure all of them with a single Wildcard certificate.

Business website / online shop

Any kind of business website, or a site that sends and receives sensitive customer information will hugely benefit from an Extended Validation SSL certificate. Extended validation gives your customers extra peace of mind by encrypting your website pages

Shall I get shared SSL and what will the URL to my secure pages look like?

Shared certificates are provided free on all of our shared hosting plans. This allows you to enjoy the encryption that SSL provides without purchasing your own SSL Certificate. However, because it is a shared certificate, it is not tied specifically to your domain name, which means that you shared SSL URL will look like the following: httpss://secure###.snapshosing.com/username where ‘##’ is a number generated by the server you are on, and ‘username’ is the username you are assigned at account setup.

If you attempt to use your own domain name with a shared certificate, you will receive warnings in your web browser that your domain name does not match the domain name indicated on the certificate.

Shared certificates are not appropriate if your website is used for e-commerce as information like payment is transmitted un-secure. Shared Certificate are only appropriate when you desire a secure connection to your server, but do not intend for it to be used by the general public.
